The Hebrew University Orchestra

The Hebrew University Orchestra was founded in December 1989 through a collaboration between the Hebrew University and Beit Hillel. Since 2007, the orchestra has been part of the Faculty of Humanities under the sponsorship of the Department of Musicology. It is a unique ensemble composed of students—both Israeli and international—as well as immigrants from the former Soviet Union, faculty members from various university departments, and other musicians from the Jerusalem area.

Most members of the orchestra participate on a voluntary basis, although some students and new immigrants receive a modest scholarship. Under the dedicated leadership of its founder, Anita Kamien, the orchestra has presented numerous highly successful concerts. For immigrant musicians, the orchestra provides not only a space to continue their musical activities, but also a valuable support network. Another important mission of the Hebrew University Orchestra is to serve as a platform for talented young soloists at the beginning of their careers, offering them the opportunity to perform with an orchestra.

Over the years, many young musicians who played in or soloed with the orchestra have gone on to join major musical institutions, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and the Carmel Quartet, or have secured teaching positions in Israel and abroad. Since 2008, Hebrew University students have been invited to attend orchestra concerts free of charge.

The orchestra relies entirely on private donations, and your support is vital to its continued activity. Those interested in contributing are warmly invited to contact us at: HebrewUOrchestra@gmail.com, or to send donations through the Hebrew University to:
